Fruitless Fall

The title and back cover of this book made me worry it was going to be dire and depressing.  When I finally got around to reading it, it was one of the books that moved me toward getting deeply engaged with sustainable hive management and the promotion of beekeeping.  The style in the writing is readable, engaging, and fascinating.  The story traces the Colony Collapse crisis that hit in 2007 and threatened (and continues to stress) our nation's agricultural foundation.  Along the way you meet interesting people, learn about the biology of a honeybee hive and the history of beekeeping, and follow the list of possible culprits in CCD like a well written mystery story.

I list this as one of the books that influenced my life and recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in the part honeybees play in every one of our lives.  -Phil Gaven, Master Beekeeper
